Welcome to the Hispanic Student Services webpage!
As an office, the Hispanic Student Services’ mission is
to help students thrive here at CU Denver and beyond the university walls. With this aim, we have multiple programs,
projects and opportunities that we are working to bring to campus. This webpage is designed to be a resource to
learn more about these opportunities.
Grounded in a strong understanding that nobody
succeeds alone, we are here to support one another and provide a safe space for
all students regardless of class, sexual orientation, nationality, citizenship,
or immigration status. We understand
that we have multiple identities, all of which need to be fostered and
At the heart of our programs we strive to engage
issues of social justice and awareness of cultural practices in the Latin@
community, which include both commonalities across us as a group as well as
variance within our communities. In this
vein, we use terminology that includes
Latin@, Hispanic and Chican@. This is a purposeful linguistic move to represent the language and
identity preferences of multiple populations in an effort to promote the idea
that we are working together to create change for a common good.
We are excited to see our program grow and we are
always looking for new ideas and feedback on how to best serve our students. If you have a suggestion for the webpage or an activity for the office,
please share your ideas. You can
do so by stopping by the office (NC2012), emailing Dr. Elizabeth Mendoza at Elizabeth.Mendoza@UCDenver.edu
or calling 303-352-3561.
