Major/Minor: Creative writing, Chinese Studies
Class Standing: Senior
Position: Program Assistant
My name is Amy Ng. I am a second-generation Chinese American, and some of my favorite things to do is learning about Chinese history and writing short stories. I found the AASS office toward the end of my junior year at CU Denver, and since then I have become more involved in the API community on campus. I also work for the campus newspaper The Advocate as a staff writer, writing about campus events and issues related to stereotypes or Asian American issues. When I’m not at school, I am working as a waitress and aspiring to be the next big young adult novelist.

Major/Minor: Biology
Class Standing: Sophomore
Position: Program Assistant

My name is Jahpa Awng. I am from Myanmar, also known as Burma. Before I came to the United States, I was a refugee. I moved from one country to another before I came to the U.S. I enjoy drawing, cross stitching, knitting, solving puzzles, listening to music, and watching movies in my free time. Being a student assistant at the EOP is good experience for me. I get to meet a lot of people and make a lot of connections. I aspire to be a doctor and my personal motto is “No matter what is going on, never give up!”

Janet Mensah

Major/Minor: Ethnic Studies, Pre-medicineScreen Shot 2015-02-05 at 11.59.24 AM.png
Class Standing: Junior
Position: Program Assistant

My name is Janet Mensah. My parents are from Ghana and I was born and raised in Bronx, New York, but I have lived in Colorado for more than 10 years. I am the only girl out of five brothers and I enjoy being a part of big family. I love to read in my free time (mostly books based in other cultures) and also enjoy listening to music such as smooth jazz, ballads, and gospel music. I have big plans to be a physician one day (hopefully a gastroenterologist) and serve underrepresented and disadvantaged communities. My goal is to go Ghana and work as a physician and support the community. I know big dreams, but with the support and love of God, my peers, family, friends, and mentors, I know I can do it! I love to help out students whenever I can on and off campus. I’m always here to lend a helping hand and to provide any additional help you may need.
