Thanks to a scholarship from the Denver Scholarship Foundation, Remberto Rivero, first-born son of an immigrant family, is destined to be a graduate of the 2010 class at CU Denver and to pursue career opportunities that he previously thought were out of his reach. “It’s almost too good to be true,” said Rivero.
“Education is the great equalizer,” explains Tim Marquez, who is co-founder, along with his wife Bernie, of the Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF). “It can open doors and we are an example of what you can do in this country. If you have a good education, anything is possible.” The DSF offers need-based scholarships for qualified Denver Public School graduates and matching financial support for those exceptional students who receive DSF scholarships and choose to attend CU Denver.
Bernadette Marquez talks about the full vision of achievement that the DSF holds for each student. “Our goal has always been not just getting students to college; our measure of success is when they graduate.”
