“Meaningful research, education and clinical care are taking place at the Anschutz Medical Campus, and there are many ways to get involved. Since cancer touches the lives of so many families, we have been especially interested in supporting the break-through cancer research that is happening on campus.”

Stewardship, the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care, has long been familiar to both Nan and Carl Eklund. Nan’s early interest in the health of children and their families led to her studies at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and her graduation with a master’s degree in the Child Health Associate Program.  The degree prepares practitioners to integrate clinical and basic sciences, giving them the knowledge and skills to practice medicine as part of a health care team in all areas of medicine, and to serve patients of all ages.

Nan serves on the advisory board of The Center for Women's Health Research at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Center’s community-based advisory board consists of committed volunteers, philanthropists and ambassadors united by a passion to improve women’s health. The board promotes the importance of women’s health throughout an influential network of health care providers, policymakers, physician-scientists and with the public. It additionally leads philanthropic efforts to underwrite scientists researching issues critical to women’s health.

Carl has served on the CU Foundation board since 2005 as a trustee, director and chair of the Membership and Governance committees. Prior to his Foundation work, he was involved at the campus level as a member of the CU Boulder Law School Building steering committee. Carl is a recipient of the Law School Alumni Board’s Award for Distinguished Achievement in Private Practice. He is a partner at Ballard Spahr in Denver, specializing in bankruptcy and corporate restructuring.

Together, the Eklunds’ visionary leadership as Chairs of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Creating Futures Campaign is helping millions of Coloradoans in envisioning a healthier tomorrow.
