Raul Cardenas, Jr., PhD, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Raul Cardenas, Jr. was born in El
Paso, TX. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Pepperdine University, his
Masters from Northern Arizona University and his Ph.D. from Arizona State
University (ASU).
Dr. Cardenas has focused his career
on ensuring people have an opportunity to access higher education and earn a
degree. Dr. Cardenas helped create and implement two charter high schools
that served predominately high risk students. He also has worked at Arizona State University and Colorado
State University. Most recently, Dr.
Cardenas served at the University of Northern Colorado as the Assistant Vice
President of Student Engagement and Dean of Students. He has over 17 years of administrative roles within a 21+
year career of educational leadership experience.
Dr. Cardenas possesses extensive
experience in university leadership, retention and access related issues, and
has extensive experience in higher education particularly in enrollment
management, marketing, retention and pre-collegiate program development and
implementation.
Samantha Ortiz, PhD, Assistant Vice Chancellor for University Life & Dean of Students
Samantha Ortiz has worked as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for University Life/Dean of Students at the University of Colorado Denver since August 2008.
Her background in higher education and student affairs is varied including direct experience in academic advising, residence life, judicial affairs, career services, instruction, orientation and, most recently, with University of Northern Colorado as Dean of Students. Prior to that, she was the Interim Associate Dean of Math, Science & Engineering at Central New Mexico Community College and was the Associate Dean of Westhampton College at the University of Richmond.
Samantha has been an active member in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, including serving as the Colorado Membership Coordinator as well as the co-chair for the 2009 NASPA IV-West Regional Conference.
Samantha obtained her B.S in Psychology from Colorado State University, and her MA in Secondary/Post-Secondary School Counseling and her Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado.
Ingrid Escholz, Interim University Registrar
Ingrid
Eschholz has been working in the Higher Education environment for over 30
years. Twenty of those years spent in the Registrar’s area. She has
been with the University of Colorado since September 2004, where she became the
Registrar for the then, Health Sciences Center, where she remained until moving
to the Denver Campus.
She was also a member of the System-wide ISIS implementation team, representing
the Anschutz Medical Campus. Eschholz received her Bachelor’s degree in
English from Eastern Connecticut State University and went on to complete her
M.S. Degree in Organizational Management.
