Accreditation Update

February 7, 2011

Dear Colleagues,

University accreditation is all about review and improvement.  It affords us the opportunity for self reflection and to again look at the major changes we have experienced: from the 2004 consolidation of our campuses, to the move of the health sciences programs to the Anschutz Medical Campus; from the development of many new programs aimed at improving learning opportunities for students to increased opportunities for scholarly work for faculty and enhanced clinical services for our patients. This process, which will culminate with our April 2011 site visit by Higher Learning Commission representatives, reminds me how much we have progressed as an institution.

In preparation for the university’s upcoming visit by the review team from the Higher Learning Commission on April 4-6, 2011, the university submitted its self-study and other required documentation this past week. The self-study was the result of an extensive review process that began with the strategic planning process in March 2007 and involved broad-based participation by different internal and external constituencies.  As with the strategic plan, drafts of the accreditation self-study were made available to the entire university community for comment at various stages of development, and many individuals contributed valuable feedback that was incorporated into the final version of the self-study document.

We have developed a website that provides much more detail about the accreditation process (http://www.ucdenver.edu/Accreditation). Included on the website is a 12-minute video created by faculty and students in the College of Arts & Media that is designed to give the reviewers a “flavor” of our institution. For those who wish to find out more about the content of the self-study, it can be downloaded at http://www.ucdenver.edu/selfstudy

There will be regular updates via Provost’s Post and other venues as we prepare for the site visit.

Sincerely,

Rod Nairn
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs
