Dave Turnquist came to the University of Colorado Denver in 1998 as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities Operations.  In this role he was responsible for building maintenance and operations, parking and transportation, health and safety, engineering, and housekeeping.  Working closely with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities Projects, they began a transition to open up and develop the future Anschutz Medical Campus at the Army Medical Base in Aurora, Colorado.

Turnquist obtained his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Rhode Island and his Masters of Business Administration at the University of Colorado.  He has active professional engineering licenses in various states since 1979, and obtained his Certified Facilities Management designation in 1993.  He is a member of the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, the Rocky Mountain APPA, and the International Facilities Management Association professional organizations.

Turnquist started his career designing structures for nuclear power plants and changed his path to engineering and facilities management at the University of Connecticut.  From there he moved to Texas and became the director of facilities management at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center in Houston before coming to Colorado as the assistant vice chancellor for facilities operations.  This department was recently consolidated with facilities projects, and renamed Facilities Management, with Turnquist as the associate vice chancellor.
