Resilience of our community, 7-20-13

Dear colleagues,

Tomorrow marks one year since the tragic shooting at the Aurora movie theater. For most of us, the remembrance of the day still evokes some powerful emotions.

But part of the reward that comes from working or studying at a university is the sense of renewal brought by the cycle of each academic year. Welcoming new students each fall and sending out new graduates each spring reminds us of the university’s greater role in preparing students to enhance their lives and careers—and to make the world a better, healthier place.

We would prefer not to have to mark this somber anniversary. But as we do, we are buoyed by the strength and resilience exhibited by our faculty, staff and students last July—and by the hope, opportunity and renewal that come from being part of the CU Anschutz Medical Campus.

The years ahead will undoubtedly bring their own challenges and uncertainties, and we will continue to rely on this community to continue its important work on behalf of this great university and the people of Colorado.

Thank you.
