We are announcing today that Sarah Thompson has decided to step down as dean of the College of Nursing. Sarah has served as dean for six years and during that time the College has grown its student base significantly, become a national leader in nurse managed clinical enterprises, developed the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program into a regional asset and built a strong financial foundation for the College’s future. We are grateful to Sarah for her leadership and salute these accomplishments.
In addition to remaining a tenured faculty member, Sarah will move to a new position as Associate Vice Chancellor in the Chancellor’s office. Her primary role will be to lead the planning for expansion of health professional education at the CU Anschutz and CU Denver campuses along with the CU South Denver location. There is an obvious and growing regional need for workforce expansion across a broad range of health-related disciplines and Sarah is ideally suited to help us plan our role in addressing it.
We expect to name an interim dean shortly and will immediately begin the process of a national search for the new dean. A search committee will be formed and it will be led by Denise Kassebaum, Dean of the School of Dentistry.
Please join us in thanking Sarah for all she has done and wish her good fortune in her new position.
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs
