Augmentative Alternative Communication referrals and assessments are done for a wide variety of purposes including: development of functional communication systems, as part of comprehensive developmental evaluations, academic planning, progress reporting, and/or the procurement of communication equipment. Each purpose and assessment environment (home health vs. academic vs. clinical) dictates process and documentation. This training will specifically address AAC evaluations and report writing for the purpose of funding communication equipment through medical insurance (Medicaid/Private Health Insurance).
We will cover coding the report, generating required documentation and including the technical language that will help ensure funding approval for AAC devices and accessories. The training will include opportunities to apply information to current clients or students. Participants are encouraged to bring de-identified histories and evaluation data for hands-on experiences. The workshop will conclude with a session of Questions & Answers consisting of a panel of experts including representatives from AAC device funding departments, private medical insurance and Colorado Medicaid.
