"Bitten By A Snake" weaves the brilliantly detailed and brutally insightful Civil War stories of soldier/journalist, Ambrose Bierce, into a powerful and immediate indictment of the human cost of war.

The play explores the inspiring courage of soldiers facing danger in the heat of battle and the price they pay for the snake of vainglorious heroism of those who lead them into the heart of the fog of war.

Celebrated as one of the 19th century finest writers, Ambrose Bierce wrote his masterwork, "Tales of Soldiers and Civilians", from his direct experiences and impressions as soldier in the war. Laura Cuetara's adaptation brings the lyrical authenticity and piercing acerbic wit to life on the stage and takes the audience behind the curtain of the persistent myths and face to face with the gritty reality of America's Great Civil War.

"Bitten by a Snake" creates a symphonic experience of language, music, movement and astonishing visual imagery, punctuated by Bierce's sardonic commentary. This production explores the nature of this explosive and defining moment that did much to define the American character.
