What is the Denver Bound Scholarship?
Denver Bound Scholarship offers awards ranging from $8,000 to $64,000 over four years for out-of-state freshmen and $4,000 to $32,000 over two years for transfer students with a demonstrated record of academic achievement and leadership.

Who is eligible?
All new non-resident, first-time freshman and first-time transfer students to UCD that are U.S. citizens enrolling in the fall semester only and enrolling from an out-of-state high school or college/university:

3.7   24-36   1080-1600
3.6   25-36   1120-1600
3.5   26-36   1160 -1600
***SAT Score consists of Critical Reading and Math; Writing is not included in the combined scores above.***

 
Qualifications for transfer students:
Transfer students that have earned fewer than 60 credits hours (at the time of enrollment) and have a cumulative transfer GPA of at least 3.5 from all institutions attended.

May I apply if I don't meet the requirements above?
Only those students with the above requirements will be considered for the Denver Bound Scholarship.

How do I apply for the Denver Bound Scholarship?
You must first be an admitted student to the university.  Once you have completed this step, go to the application page and complete the online scholarship application. Priority Deadline is March 1, 2012-Final Deadline is March 30, 2012. All applicants must participate in an on-campus interview.  Once we have determined that you qualify, we will forward an invitation and information to you.

Scholarship Interview Weekend Dates for 2012:
February 24th & 25th, 2012. 
March 9th & 10th, 2012.
March 23rd & 24th, 2012.

Is need a factor?
Denver Bound Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and leadership skills. You are not required to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive a Denver Bound Scholarship. However, we strongly recommend that you submit the FAFSA and have your results sent to UCD by March 1. This will ensure that you will be considered for all other types of financial aid for which you may qualify.

Is my Denver Bound Scholarship renewable?
Yes! These awards are automatically renewed for up to four years for freshmen and up to two years for transfer students. You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and continuous full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 credits hours) in UCD (Denver Campus) courses. The Denver Bound Scholarship will not pay for courses taken though the Continuing and Professional Education programs. This scholarship is not intended for students who wish to only take on-line courses from their home.

Will the Denver Bound Scholarship affect my WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange) eligibility?

Residents of the following states may be eligible to pay a reduced non-resident tuition rate through the Western Undergraduate Exchange program: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. If you are a resident of a WUE state you will be eligible to receive both the WUE reduced tuition rate and the Denver Bound Scholarship in a combined award.  More information on the WUE program is available at

Is there an on-campus living requirement?
All new freshmen are required to live at Campus Village for the first year, visit the following page for student housing information.

How do I know that I am qualified for this scholarship?
The Admissions Office verifies your academic credentials once you have been admitted to CU Denver. You will then receive an e-mail letting you know you qualify.

Will I receive a confirmation packet?
Yes. You will receive a confirmation packet two to three weeks after your Denver Bound Scholarship file is complete.

If I am qualified for the scholarship do I automatically receive the scholarship?
No.  All qualified students must attend an interview weekend.

Is scholarship funding “first come first served”?
No.  You will qualify for the maximum amount for attending any one of the three weekends. We encourage you to attend the weekend that works best with your schedule.

Are all weekends the same? 
Yes.  The February weekend is held in conjunction with Open House.  This opportunity allows you to talk with representatives from the department you plan to major in as well visit with other student services departments. Open House follows the interviews.

Does UC Denver compensate me for travel expenses? No.  All travel expenses are paid by the student to attend the interview weekend.  UC Denver guarantees the minimum amount of $4,000.00 per year (valid for up to four years) for each qualified student who attends one of the interview weekends.

When are my letters of recommendation and photo due?
Letters of recommendation and your photo should be in your file prior to interviewing.  Notifications of awards will not be made until the Denver Bound Scholarship file is complete. 

When am I notified of my award?
Assuming the Denver Bound Scholarship file is complete, award notices are mailed within two weeks following the interview. 

Is there a deadline as to when I must notify UC Denver whether I plan to take advantage of the scholarship? 
Yes. You must notify us no later than May 1 of your plan to accept or decline the scholarship.  

Will my interview be a group interview or one-on-one?
One-on-one. We do not conduct group interviews.

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)

Legal residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming and Washington may be eligible to receive a reduced tuition rate through the WUE program, which applies only to programs at the Downtown Campus.
