Are you a licensed teacher seeking to enhance your literacy instruction skills at the secondary level as well as your credentials? Perhaps you wish to get involved in literacy coaching at the secondary school level? Welcome to the Literacy, Language and Culturally Responsive Teaching program at CU Denver.
We offer preparation for licensed educators desiring to add the Secondary Reading Teacher endorsement with the Colorado Department of Education. We provide advanced knowledge and training to work with diverse adolescents as they develop reading, writing, and oral language skills.
Course work includes language and literacy acquisition, culturally relevan teaching practices, literature, literacy assessment and informed instruction, hands-on practica, and other areas. We've designed the program to be convenient for current teachers. For example, the clinical experience required for the degree can be completed in your own school classroom.
Our faculty are top-notch. They will help you to improve your practice and put you in touch with the latest theories and innovative teaching strategies. We stress the importance of recognizing a variety of literacies - home, school, community, and mainstream - in both first and second languages, and the meaningful use of literacy and language to improve students' engagement in learning and quality of life.
