Admission Requirements

Applicants will be notified of admission status by mail. Please contact the Office of Student Affairs and Diversity for changes in name, address, telephone number or email address.

Admissions Requirements

The following materials are required for a complete application. Admissions decisions will be made after each deadline and following a faculty review. All materials submitted become the property of the University of Colorado College of Nursing.

  1. Bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from an NLN or CCNE accredited school or university.
  2. You must provide proof of nursing accreditation from the schools that you received both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing. You can get this information either from the NLN or CCNE web sites or from your institutions.
  3. Three (3) letters of reference with at least one academic reference: The online application data system will require you to submit the names, telephone numbers and e-mail address for your recommenders. Once you complete your application and hit submit, your recommenders will receive an e-mail with instructions, along with information and an e-address to submit their recommendation on your behalf. It will take the data system approximately 24-72 hours to deliver this information to the recommender once you have submitted your application.
    • Completed application for admission.
    • Non-refundable application fee of $65 is payable online in the application.
    • One copy of the official transcript from each college or university from which the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing were earned. The College of Nursing now accepts eTranscripts. Please email your eTranscripts to nursing.transcripts@ucdenver.edu.
      • (Official transcripts are those sent directly from the registrar’s office of the issuing institution to the University of Colorado College of Nursing, Office of Student Affairs and Diversity.)
    • Copy of current nursing license. (Out-of-state applicants must submit a copy of their current nursing license and must obtain a current Colorado nursing license prior to starting their program of study if doing clinical course work in Colorado. For information contact the Colorado State Board of Nursing, 1560 Broadway, Suite 670, Denver, CO 80202.)
    • TOEFL: It is the policy of the College of Nursing to require all applicants to the college whose primary spoken language is not English and International Applicants to submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores as part of the application process.
      The College of Nursing TOEFL Exam Code is 3377. Please be sure to use this code when registering for the exam to ensure that we receive the results.
      Potential applicants that do not currently meet the minimum TOEFL requirement may participate in the College’s free English as Second Language (ESL) workshops that are offered on Saturdays throughout the school year.

    International Student Applicants

    International applicants are encouraged to begin the application process one year prior to their requested admission term.

    1. In addition to the standard admission requirements, international applicants must submit the following:
      • A copy of your current passport.
      • Financial statement for international applicants. Call 303-315-2230 for more information.
    2. TOEFL Test Required for All Applicants with a Primary Language other than English: It is the policy of the College of Nursing to require all applicants to the college whose primary spoken language is not English to submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores as part of the application process. (All international applicants to the College of Nursing must submit a TOEFL score.) Effective July 1, 2009, a total score of at least 560 on the paper-based TOEFL and 50 or above on the Test of Spoken English (TSE), 220 on the computer-based TOEFL and 50 or above on the TSE, or 83 on the Internet-based TOEFL with 26 or above on the Spoken portion is required. Potential applicants that do not currently meet the minimum TOEFL requirement may participate in the College’s free English as Second Language (ESL) workshops that are offered on Saturdays throughout the school year. Current students, faculty and staff at the College of Nursing may also participate in the ESL workshops at no cost.

    3. For all applicants with educational coursework from a country other than the U.S.:

    A course by course evaluation for U.S. equivalency of international transcripts done by an approved international transcript evaluation service.

      • Evaluation by World Education Services (WES) is preferred.
      • The evaluation must be mailed directly from the evaluation service to the College of Nursing.
