Admissions Requirements

Requirements and Materials Needed to Apply


Master's Requirements

The following requirements/materials are required for a complete application. Admissions decisions will be made after each deadline, following a faculty review. All materials submitted become the property of the University of Colorado College of Nursing.

Requirements

  1. An undergraduate nursing degree from a CCNE or ACEN (formally NLNAC) accredited school or university.*
  2. One copy of the official transcript from each college or university ever attended.
  3. Four (4) letters of reference - at least one academic reference is strongly recommended.
  4. Completion of a nursing research course, at an institution that is regionally accredited, with a grade of C or better.
  5. Completion of a statistics course, at an institution that is regionally accredited, with a grade of C or better.
  6. Copy of current and unencumbered nursing license.
    • Out-of-state applicants must submit a copy of their current and unencumbered nursing license and must obtain a current Colorado nursing license prior to starting their program of study if doing clinical course work in Colorado.

  7. The GRE and/or (12) credits of graduate level coursework at a 3.0 or higher is required by the Graduate School for those applicants whose undergraduate degree GPA is less than 3.0. The official GRE score and/or graduate coursework must be completed prior to the application deadline.
  8. Applicant Interview Day - MS Fall 2015 Applicant Interview Day is planned for March 20, 2015.  Additional information will be forthcoming for applicants to the programs that participate in Interview Day. Please ensure that you plan accordingly.
* Individuals applying to the Informatics and iLEAD options are not required to have a BSN degree. They may have a BA or BS degree in another field.

International Students

  1. In addition to the standard admission requirements, international applicants must submit the following:
    • A copy of your current passport.
    • Financial statement for international applicants. Call 303-315-2230 for more information.
  2. TOEFL: Required for all international applicants to the College of Nursing.
  3. For all applicants with educational coursework from a country other than the U.S.:
    • A course-by-course evaluation will be performed by the College of Nursing through the Office of International Affairs. Applicant needs to request official transcripts to be sent directly to the College of Nursing.

Transcript Requirements​

  • One copy of your official transcripts from each college or university attended needs to be submitted.
  • You will want to have transcripts submitted to the College of Nursing by the application deadline. 
  • To be considered "official", transcripts need to be sent (mailed or emailed) directly from the institution.

​Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

If your primary spoken language is not English you will to need to submit TOEFL score as part of the application process.
 
If you are an international applicant to the College of Nursing you need to submit a TOEFL score as part of the application process.
 
The College of Nursing TOEFL Exam Code is 3377. Please be sure to use this code when registering for the exam to ensure that we receive the results.
 
A total score of at least 560 on the paper-based TOEFL and 50 or above on the Test of Spoken English (TSE), 220 on the computer-based TOEFL and 50 or above on the TSE, or 83 on the Internet-based TOEFL with 26 or above on the Spoken portion is required.
