- The Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome was awarded the Theodore D. Tjossem Research Award by the Board of Directors of the National Down Syndrome Congress in San Antonio, Texas, on August 16, 2011. In selecting the Crnic Institute, the Board noted the Institute’s commitment to comprehensive basic and clinical research on Down syndrome, as well as its support of, and participation in, the December 2010 National Conference, Down Syndrome: Patient Registries, Research Databases, and Biobanks. Ed McCabe, executive director of the Institute and member of the IDDRC, accepted the award on behalf of the Institute.
- Dr. Nicole Tartaglia has received a K23 Patient Oriented Research Career Development Award from NINDS.
- Dr. Richard Spritz will deliver the Seiji Memorial Lecture at the International Pigment Cell Conference in Bordeaux, France, election for which is a lifetime achievement award.
Richard A. Spritz, M.D. has been selected by the International Federation of Pigment Cell Societies for the 2011 Seiji Memorial Lectureship at the International Pigment Cell Conference in Bordeaux, France. This is a lifetime achievement award.

- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in cooperation with the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke have issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) titled “Preclinical Research on Model Organisms to Predict Treatment Outcomes for Disorders Associated with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities” (PAR-11-038). Neuromotor Outcome Measures for Clinical Trials in Fragile X Syndrome receives FRAXA award.
- The Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) and the Office of Autism Research Coordination (OARC) are pleased to announce the release of the 2010 IACC Strategic Plan for Autism Spectrum Disorder Research. This second edition of the Strategic Plan was developed by the IACC over the past year with extensive input from families, people with ASD, researchers, clinicians, federal and private funders of ASD research and autism advocacy organizations. A news update about the new 2010 IACC Strategic Plan and related links can be found on the IACC website.
- The DPRG is an important partner of the IDDRC. If you wish to join the DPRG, please contact Mark Laudenslager .
- New NIH/NIDCR FaceBase Consortium aids research on craniofacial development and facial birth defects. Drs. Kristin Artinger (IDDRC), David Clouthier and Richard Spritz (IDDRC) from UCD are principal investigators on FaceBase Consortium grants.
- All IDDRC service requests and inquiries should go through the Core Managment Tool. The Core Management Tool can be accessed via the individual cores.
- The Schizophrenia Center (Dr. Sherry Leonard) kindly agreed to share with the Translational Nexus a large number of immortalized human lymphoblast lines from control patients (mental illness ruled out). These will become available gradually over the next few months.
