Kelly WaughKelly G. Waugh, PT, MAPT, ATP, is a Senior Instructor and the Clinic Coordinator at Assistive Technology Partners.  She received both her BA degree in Human Biology and her MA degree in Physical Therapy from Stanford University in Stanford, California.  In addition to serving as Clinic Coordinator, Ms. Waugh provides wheelchair seating and mobility technology assessments, fittings and consultations for children and adults with a variety of disabilities, as well as sleep positioning assessments for children with severe neuromotor impairment.  Ms. Waugh joined ATP's team in 2004, and was instrumental in developing the Wheelchair Seating and Mobility component of its clinical services.  Prior to her move to Colorado, Ms. Waugh was the wheelchair seating specialist for Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, NJ for nine years, with extensive prior experience working with individuals with severe physical and intellectual disabilities in institutional and group home settings.  After moving to Colorado in 2001, she developed and implemented a Sleep Positioning clinical service for The Children's Hospital's Assistive Technology Clinic during 2002-2004.  Professionally, Ms. Waugh is actively involved in RESNA - The Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America, and she is a RESNA certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP).  Ms. Waugh served as chair of the RESNA and ISO Wheelchair Seating Standards Working Groups that developed an international standard for the measurement of wheelchair seated posture and seating support parameters.  She is currently leading an effort to write a Clinical Application Guide to the ISO standard on body and seat measures.  Ms. Waugh's research interests include the measurement of wheelchair seated posture, the effects of seated posture on health and function of wheelchair users and the effects of body positioning during sleep in children with severe neuromotor impairment.

What I love about my job...

“I am grateful to work with a group of really dedicated professionals who are passionate about helping people with disabilities live full and productive lives.  Each client who comes to our clinic is unique, and there are rarely “cook-book” answers to the difficult challenges they face.  I love the process of collaborative problem solving, working with the client or their caregiver as the primary decision maker.   Even though I have been practicing in the field of wheelchair seating and mobility for over 25 years, I learn something new from each person that I work with. Most importantly, my clients inspire me with their perseverance, optimism, and gratitude.”
