Volunteer and Part-Time Faculty

School of Medicine Faculty Affairs

School of Medicine faculty members who perform volunteer teaching, research or clinical services, or whose appointments are less than half-time, are eligible for appointment to the Clinical Faculty.  Currently, there are more than 2,800 clinical faculty members in the School of Medicine.  They play a vital role in teaching medical students, residents and fellows in all the clinical departments of the School of Medicine.

Community-based clinical faculty members also play a critical role in the School’s undergraduate medical curriculum; they serve as preceptors for students in their offices, and they teach in Foundations of Doctoring, communication and physical diagnosis courses, which are cornerstones of the medical student experience.  Members of the clinical faculty also serve on important departmental and school-wide committees and contribute in countless other ways to the educational and clinical care programs of the School of Medicine.
