Welcome to the website of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is committed to providing exemplary surgical care, outstanding surgical training and education, and excellence in both basic sciences research and clinical/translational investigation.
Exemplary clinical services are provided by the faculty physicians in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and include virtually all aspects of adult and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery.
The Division offers a Thoracic Surgery Residency Program, a three-year residency that has been in continuous operation since 1977. The Division also offers a one-year accredited fellowship in Congenital Cardiac Surgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery has an outstanding research program, both in basic sciences and clinical/translational investigation. The Division’s faculty includes two full-time basic science researchers who oversee approximately 6,200 square feet of wet-bench laboratory space within the Division.
Faculty in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery play an active role in clinical/translational research at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. We have a significant number of clinical trials currently underway.
The Division faculty also engage in outcomes research under the auspices of Surgical Outcomes and Applied Research (SOAR), a collaboration between the Department of Surgery and the Colorado Health Outcomes Program.
