The University of Colorado Depression Center Research Program specializes in research on new and innovative treatment approaches for depression and mood disorders. While the Depression Center is relatively new, the research program is based on a long tradition of excellence in treatment and research in mood disorders at the University of Colorado. Since 2001, the faculty at the UCD Depression Center have enrolled hundreds of patients in research studies for depression, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, acute mania, acute agitation and smoking cessation.
The University of Colorado Denver Depression Center Research Program is under the direction of Michael Allen, MD, an expert in the field of mood disorders. He was a principal investigator in the NIMH Systematic Treatment Enhancement Program for Bipolar Disorder and other studies in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He has published extensively on the treatment of bipolar depression and risk for suicide in bipolar disorder. Along with Dr. Allen, the center houses several other internationally recognized faculty with a variety of interests.
