The Department of Pediatrics Prevention Research Center for Family and Child Health (PRC) has has three major research foci:

The PRC is also recognized for -

  • periodic reviews of early intervention literature
  • support of early intervention programs wishing to improve their effectiveness
  • consultation with government and private agencies
  • training of prevention scientists.

  • Dr. David Olds, founder of the Nurse-Family Partnership​, received the 2017 Kempe Professional Award. For the past 40 years, David has worked to develop the partnership, which is a leading model in maternal-child health programs. The partnership serves more than 33,000 U.S. families per year and another 18,000 in eight other countries.

  • Dr. David Olds will receive The John Stearns Medal for Distinguished Contributions in Clinical Practice for developing the Nurse-Family Partnership, which provides ongoing home visits from registered nurses to low-income, first- time moms. The award, from the New York Academy of Medicine, will be presented at a ceremony in November 2016, in New York.

  • Dr. David Olds discussed the rapidly expanding medical program for low-income first-time mothers, the Nurse-Family Partnership, with PBS Newshour on January 19th, 2016.

  • More vulnerable families will be offered one-to-one support from dedicated family nurses, as the government’s goal of expanding to 16,000 places in the Family Nurse Partnership England is reached.
