Feature Program:   The FAME Study
(Females, Aging, Metabolism, and Exercise)

The purpose of this research is to learn how the loss of estrogen changes metabolism and risk of disease in women. At the time of menopause, there are changes to body composition and metabolism that may lead to an increase in the risk of chronic disease. (COMIRB protocol #12-1157).

Program Newsletter: The IMAGE Group releases a quarterly publication that features information on current studies and our investigators behind the scenes.  A new study this quarter is "A Leg Blood Flow Study". Read about it in our current newsletter

Recent Result Publications from IMAGE Studies:

Findings from the BLAST Study conducted by IMAGE researcher Kerrie Moreau, PhD, were recently published in the American Journal of Physiology.
Tetrahydrobiopterin improves endothelial function and decreases arterial stiffness in estrogen-deficient postmenopausal women.

The Geriatrics IMAGE Group studies is looking for participants:

PTH and Calcium Responses to Exercise.
The PACE Study Experiment 1 is looking for healthy women and men aged 18 to 45 years who are recreational cyclists. Experiment 1 will determine whether the amount of calcium lost through sweating during exercise affects the decrease in blood calcium and the release of calcium from bone.(COMIRB protocol #12-0767).
The PACE Study Experiment 2 is looking for healthy men aged 18 to 45 years who are recreational cyclists. Experiment 2 Pilot will determine whether preventing calcium loss during exercise prevents increases in a hormone that regulates bone metabolism.(COMIRB protocol #12-0767).
