Funding for first year PhD students:
C. Werner and Kitty Hirs Merit Awards
These awards are provided from an endowment entitled the "C. Werner and Kitty Hirs Graduate Student Enrichment Fund" made to the University of Colorado Foundation for the use by the Graduate School at the Anschutz Medical Campus of UC Denver. These awards will be used to attract the "best and brightest" of each year’s applicants for admission to the basic science Ph.D. programs.
Awards will be for $5,000 per year for up to four years (contingent on continuing satisfactory performance by the recipient). These awards will represent a supplement to the current basic science stipend obtained from any source. Awards will run from the start of the fall semester to the end of the following summer semester. Recipients will be reviewed at the end of the first year to ascertain that they have maintained a GPA of 3.00 or better and that they passed their preliminary examination. At the end of the second year, all recipients must be re-nominated by the program in which they are currently enrolled. If the applicant is judged to be meritorious, the award will be continued for an additional two years.
