The Department of Communication offers BA, MA, minor, and certificate programs designed to give students the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. Our award-winning faculty members combine a passion for teaching with expertise in their field to bring communication issues to life across their classrooms and communities.

Bachelor of Arts

Bachelor of Arts

The Communication major at the University of Colorado Denver has as its focus and mission the development of the skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to use communication to create a more civil and humane world. The curriculum was developed to counter the pervasive atmosphere of unrelenting contention and uncivil communication that characterizes the contemporary world.

Minor

Minor

Knowledge in most professional settings means little unless it can be communicated effectively. That's why so many UCD students opt to pair one of the following minors with degrees in so many other disciplines.

The Master of Arts in Communication is designed to enhance students' intellectual and professional growth through the understanding and practice of effective communication.

Certificates

Certificates offer students the advantage of earning a credential in a focused field.

Online

Online

The Department of Communication offers an array of online classes in order to provide students with scheduling flexibility and hands-on experiences consistent with twenty-first century learning environments.

Independent Study

Independent Study

Students who meet the criteria may apply for permission to do 1 to 3 credit hours of Independent Study work.

ICB

International College of Beijing

International College Beijing (ICB) offers a UC Denver bachelor of arts degree in communication. Courses are taught in English by UC Denver faculty in Beijing.

Learning Goals & Objectives

The department assesses its success in achieving this mission and its learning outcomes in terms of five broad goals, which are applicable to both its BA and MA degrees: Creation of Community, Communication Within and Across Systems, Analysis of Communication, Production of Communication, and Professional Advancement. The department's Outcomes Assessment Committee (OAC) enables the department to gauge how well it is meeting these learning goals.
