George and Mary Hermosillo were the loving parents of nine children, all of Denver, Colorado. They were married for 60 years and lived and worshipped in the North Denver Area.
Mary, born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1922, passed away in 1999. George, born in Alamogordo, New Mexico in 1920, passed away in 2008. They left countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who benefited from their love, nurturing and constant support for education. Several of the grandchildren have graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, Metropolitan State College of Denver, Regis University and the University of Colorado at both Boulder and Denver. They have become business administrators, a probation officer, an elementary school teacher and a registered nurse. Other family Members are successful in both government and private sectors in Colorado, Alaska and Kentucky.
George and Mary provided a loving and positive family environment throughout the years and made it possible for all the children and grandchildren to accomplish a better life for themselves and their families through their emphasis on family, religion, music, higher education, self-actualization, community development, social equality and women’s rights. It is for these countless reasons that we feel it most fitting to honor our mother and father, George and Mary, through academic scholarship support for deserving students of the University of Colorado at Denver, Department of Ethnic Studies on an annual basis, each fall and spring semesters.
