With the department’s nationally-recognized script development and original production projects that have continued over the course of nearly three decades, students develop an expertise in direction and the development of new works as they engage in collaborative creation with other students in directing projects, department productions, and student film presentations.
With core courses in direction, management, and writing, the program draws on coursework and production opportunities in the aesthetics of film and television, and incorporates specific electives from programs in writing, acting, production, and other areas/disciplines in the college. The applied study of conceptual principles, historical practice, and critical perspectives complements opportunities to work with artists in the region through theatre productions, film and television projects, and performance works fully preparing students to direct films and expand the boundaries of traditional production practice.
