About the Interim Dean

Gary Kochenberge

Dr. Gary Kochenberger, Interim Dean of the Business School and recipient of the Richard Bard Professorship at the University of Colorado Denver, joined the Business School business analytics faculty in 1989. He received his MBA and PhD in business from the University of Colorado. In addition to his work at CU Denver, he has held professorships at Penn State University, the University of Southern Colorado, and the University of Mississippi.

Dr. Kochenberger has authored five books and over ninety refereed articles in top analytics journals including Management Science. Dr. Kochenberger specializes on the subjects of combinatorial optimization, resource allocation, computer simulation, pattern recognition, data mining, and related issues. He is internationally recognized for the development and testing of a unified framework for combinational optimization. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Kochenberger consults with companies on applications of business analytic methodologies. At the community level, he has provided advising and consulting for numerous organizations, including University Hospital, the Downtown Denver Partnership and Denver Public Schools. Much of this work is in the context of student projects that greatly benefit the project subjects and provide students with real-world learning opportunities.

Dr. Kochenberger has won several awards for excellence in research and is the recipient of the Herbert Simon Award for Outstanding Contribution in Information Technology and Decision Making.
