Undergraduate International Admissions

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in the University of Colorado’s College of Architecture and Planning. We invite you to explore and learn more about the University’s admission requirements, international services and estimated finances.

To make your navigating experience easier, we’ve broken out the specific information that applies strictly to international students; so this page is strictly a top line cook’s tour of the Undergraduate International section. However, since the Undergraduate Admissions Office is on the Boulder campus, the undergraduate International content is also held and updated on the CU-Boulder site. As a result, all of the links on this page will take you over to the Boulder site where you can read the material in full.

Getting Started

Who exactly is an "International Student”?... International students are those who already have, or will be applying for, a temporary U.S. visa (most commonly the F-1 and J-1 visas). If you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee – or if you have submitted the Form I-485 to the Department of Homeland Security in application for permanent residency status and have received a receipt for the form – you should use the appropriate domestic application.

Evaluate Your Level

Do you have the right academic credentials? Admission standards at CU-Boulder are competitive, and students are expected to have excellent academic records. In evaluating your level of placement, CU-Boulder considers differences in non-U.S. educational systems and compares your system with U.S. educational programs.

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

The Office of Admissions should receive your International Undergraduate Student Application for Admission (pdf) and all required credentials by the appropriate deadline. It is important to begin the application process nine to 12 months before you intend to begin your studies. Submit as much of the required information as possible in one packet.

As a CU-Boulder student, this office will be one of your most important resources for learning about the university, Boulder, and living in the United States. ISSS provides trained and experienced advisors who can serve as liaisons with your sponsoring agency or home government, assist with orientation and legal matters, and help you adjust to a new culture and educational system.

Activities for International Students

International students have many opportunities to become involved in campus and community life. CU-Boulder is home to more than 300 student clubs and organizations, and several of these clubs are geared specifically to international students.

Estimate Your Finances

It is vitally important to pay special attention to your financial needs, because costs of attending a university in the United States are generally high. In most cases, CU-Boulder cannot provide financial support to international students. And, immigration regulations severely restrict employment of international students while in the United States. Therefore, in order to attend the university you must have sufficient funds from some other source.

International Undergraduate Student Funding Possibilities

International students are considered nonresident students and pay nonresident tuition rates. However, to keep tuition costs down for nonresident students, the university has guaranteed a four-year fixed tuition rate for these students, and also offers four scholarships for freshman international students.
